This is an old Bob Olley orc originally produced for the Fantasy Warlord game. I got him from SHQ Miniatures, but I believe the range is on the move again. I'm planning to use him as the Black Orc hired sword in Mordheim. He's a big fellow (that's a 30mm base), so he's suitably imposing even next to chunky Mordheim-era plastic orcs.
Thanks for sharing, also because it's hard to get photos of the orcs sold by SHQ. We like Bob Olley's miniatures for their unmistakable style, and this heavily armored, cleaver-wielding orc is a great choice for those with the money to have him on their side.
ReplyDeleteWe don't know Mordheim all that well, but is there an all-orc warband, or can an orc be hired by any warband?
I've just been getting into Mordheim over the last couple of months - hoping for a first game soon! Yes, there's an orc warband (official) and several un- or less-official goblinoid ones. Any of those can hire a black orc. There's also a black-orc warband, though I think it has a maximum of three black orcs. Do you know the broheim site? It has EVERYTHING! https://www.broheim.net

Thanks! The skin was black, black + Vallejo sombre grey; sombre grey; mid-sea grey. Once upon a time, Warhammer black orcs were actually black/grey: in my mind's eye, I had one of the plates from WHFRP (and later repeated in Warhammer Armies, I think), which shows various green goblinoids alongside a grey-skinned, bearded (I think) black orc with a glaive and shield. I haven't been able to find it on the internet, though, much to my surprise.
DeleteAnd, right enough, there's a black-skinned goblin (based on one of the Citadel great goblins) on the back cover of WHFRP - the one closest to the adventurer with the green tunic and sword and dagger.

DeleteThat artwork is amazing, didn't know it before. I recognize the greenskin banners from the "Baneful Banners" that one could print out for their Warhammer armies, great stuff!
