In D&D, hobgoblins are one of the more uniform and organised of the monstrous humanoid races. But - aside from the marvellous Aly Morrison Citadel range - there aren't many large ranges for them.
My solution is to unite disparate miniatures with a uniform paint scheme: blue noses and orange hides/fur, like golden monkeys.
This one's an old Ral Partha miniature. I have a couple more to go with him.
Lovely paint job and his simian looks and bright blue nose are very striking! Kind of looks a little Mandril-like but I won't enquire as to the colour of his rump ;)
ReplyDeleteI love him! Fantastic choice of colours, the blue nose was a great idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Yes - best kept under wraps, that, I think!
ReplyDeleteA mandrill-like appearance must be the best guess as to what Gygax was on about when he said that "large males will have blue-red noses". This one actually has mandrill-like ridges, so I could have made the end of his nose red. But to preserve coherence with the rest, I thought it was safest to stick to the Chinese golden-monkey scheme.
I'm already pondering the idea of a new tribe with dark fur/hide and greenstuffed mandrill snouts, though!
Excellent! Once again, a very interesting color scheme. I love this shield.
ReplyDeleteThanks! The sculptor did all the work on the shield.
DeleteExcellent work as always!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
